LIVE UNITED ... more than a new tagline

Guest Post by:
Michael A. Carter Sr. - 2008 Board Chair, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville

What does it mean to "live united?" And why does it matter? Can thinking of we before me really make a difference? It's time for a new way of thinking about our community ...

As United Way's new board chair, let me say that we are going to have a great United Way campaign this year. How do I know this? Because this will be our first year for a year-round, 365 days, 24/7 campaign.

The agencies we help fund are out in the community doing their work, changing lives on a daily basis, so it only makes sense to ramp up our efforts to support them in the same manner.

But this year is about more than just raising money. We're looking to engage donors in more dynamic ways with opportunities to volunteer and share the message of United Way's mission as well. We're focused on the building blocks for a better life: education, income/financial stability, and health. It's a strategy that touches everyone, from children and families to seniors and even whole neighborhoods — and we need your help do it.

I encourage you to visit this Web site often, open any communications you receive from us, and check the local media for news of upcoming opportunities and activities. There will definitely be a buzz in the air about what it means to LIVE UNITED. Come be a part of it.
